Terms of use.

Dipstick: Car Maintenance Log is an iPhone app sold by Wade Bruce, a sole proprietor doing business as Brucelabs ("I", "me", and "my"). These terms are an agreement between you and me about your use of Dipstick, effective September 26, 2026. By downloading or using Dipstick, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Dipstick.

Apple's Standard EULA

Dipstick is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These terms supplement the Standard EULA. If the two conflict, the Standard EULA controls on the license itself, and these terms control on everything else, to the extent the law allows. Apple isn't responsible for Dipstick or its support, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms.

What Dipstick is, and isn't

Dipstick is a record-keeping convenience. It helps you log the maintenance you do on your vehicles and reminds you when something may be due. It does not provide professional automotive advice, and it doesn't inspect, diagnose, or know the condition of your vehicle.

• Follow your vehicle manufacturer's maintenance schedule and recommendations, and consult a qualified mechanic when in doubt.
• Reminders are based only on what you enter, and they depend on your iPhone's notification settings. They can be late, missed, or wrong, so don't rely on them alone.
• You're responsible for the accuracy of your records and for any work you do on your vehicle.

Dipstick Pro

Dipstick is free to download. Dipstick Pro is an optional upgrade, available as:

• a monthly subscription ($4.99 per month) or a yearly subscription ($29.99 per year), with a 7-day free trial; or
• a one-time lifetime purchase ($49.99).

Prices are in US dollars, may vary by country, and are shown in the App Store before you buy. Apple processes all payments, and your purchase is also subject to Apple's terms. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If you don't cancel before your free trial ends, the subscription starts and you're charged. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in iOS Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription. The lifetime purchase doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel.

I don't have access to your payment details and can't issue refunds myself. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Your records stay on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can export or delete them in the app at any time. Because I can't see or restore your data, please keep your own backups of anything you can't afford to lose.

License and acceptable use

Subject to these terms and the Standard EULA, I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Dipstick on Apple devices you own or control. Please don't copy, resell, or reverse-engineer Dipstick, except where the law allows despite this limit, and don't try to get Dipstick Pro without paying for it.

"As is"

Dipstick is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, I disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I don't promise that Dipstick will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suited to your needs.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for vehicle damage, repair costs, missed maintenance, or lost data arising from your use of Dipstick. My total liability for all claims about Dipstick is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Dipstick in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Changes and governing law

I may update these terms from time to time. When I do, I'll post the new version on this page with a new date. If you keep using Dipstick after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin and applicable United States federal law. If you live outside the United States, you keep any consumer protections that the law where you live gives you and that can't be waived.
